# Rent a car at Dubai Airport (DXB)

Updated: July 2026

Rental desks work at all three DXB terminals. Pick your terminal below for exact directions.

## How do I get from the plane to my car?

Five steps, no transfers: passport control, baggage, then follow the "Car Rental" signs in Arrivals. At Terminal 1 the whole route takes about 15 minutes on foot.

1. **Passport control.** Smart gates are available for many nationalities — usually 5–15 minutes.
2. **Baggage claim.** Belt numbers are shown on the arrivals screens right after passport control.
3. **Follow the "Car Rental" signs.** They start right at the Arrivals exit — the same signage system in every terminal.
4. **Pick-up desk.** The Yango Drive desk is in the Arrivals Hall, Level 2, right after baggage claim — follow the "Car Rental" signs.
5. **Drive out.** Exit via Concourse D onto E11 (Sheikh Zayed Rd) — about 15 minutes to Downtown Dubai.

## How much does a rental car cost at DXB?

## Which DXB terminal will I arrive at?

Your terminal depends on the airline: Emirates lands at T3, flydubai at T2, and almost everyone else at T1. There is no walking route between terminals — a free 24/7 shuttle connects them.

| TERMINAL | AIRLINES | RENTAL DESKS | EXIT ROAD | METRO |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| T1 | International carriers (all except Emirates & flydubai) | Arrivals Hall, Level 2, after baggage claim | Concourse D → E11 (Sheikh Zayed Rd) | Red Line ✓ |
| T2 | flydubai, regional & low-cost | Arrivals area by the exit; Yango Drive — meet & greet | Al Quds Street | No — shuttle to T1/T3 |
| T3 | Emirates (+ Qantas) | Arrivals, after baggage claim | Direct to E11 — fastest to Downtown | Red Line ✓ |

## How are DXB's terminals laid out?

Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 sit side by side, both on the Dubai Metro Red Line. Terminal 2 is on the opposite side of the runway with no metro access — a free 24/7 shuttle is the only link between it and T1/T3.

First time at DXB? You don't need this diagram just to find your rental desk — bright "Car Rental" signs are posted throughout every terminal's Arrivals hall (see the 5-step walk-through above). This map only matters if your flight lands at one terminal and your pick-up is at another.

- Metro Red Line — connects T1 & T3 only. Not needed for car pick-up.
- Free 24/7 shuttle to/from T2 — no ticket, just walk on.
- E11 highway — the road out toward Downtown Dubai
- Yango Drive pick-up point — your car is waiting here

## What do I need to rent a car at DXB?

Four things: your passport, a driving licence held for at least one year, a credit card in the driver's name, and — if your licence is not in Latin script — an International Driving Permit.

- **Age 21+** — some car classes require 25+
- **Driving licence held ≥ 1 year** — bring the physical card
- **International Driving Permit (IDP)** — only if your licence is not in Latin script
- **Credit card in the driver's name** — for the deposit hold (varies by car class; none on Luxury)

## Common questions

### I landed at Terminal 2 but the pick-up is at Terminal 3 — what do I do?

Take the free 24/7 shuttle between DXB terminals — it runs from the Arrivals level and takes about 15–20 minutes. With Yango Drive this is not needed: cars are issued at Terminal 2 directly, an agent meets you in the Arrivals area.

### How do Salik road tolls work in a rental car?

Salik gates in Dubai are fully automatic — no barriers or cash. Each crossing costs AED 4 and is charged to your rental afterwards. You do not need to buy or install anything.

### Is insurance included in the rental price?

Basic cover is included in every Yango Drive rental at DXB. Full coverage that reduces your liability to zero can be added during booking or at pick-up.

### What happens if I get a traffic fine?

Fines are registered against the car and charged to the card on file, plus an administration fee. Dubai uses speed cameras extensively — limits are posted and typically enforced with a small buffer.

### Is there a shuttle between DXB terminals?

Yes — a free shuttle runs 24/7 between Terminals 1, 2 and 3. There is no walking route between them; T2 is on the opposite side of the runway from T1 and T3. Allow 15–20 minutes.

### Can I take the metro from the airport instead?

The Dubai Metro Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3 only. Terminal 2 has no metro connection — use the free inter-terminal shuttle, a taxi, or pick up a rental car at T2.

### Can I return the car at a different terminal?

Yes — Yango Drive accepts returns at any of the three DXB terminals. Select the return terminal during booking; there is no extra fee for returning at a different DXB terminal.
